Welcome, Howl Intentional Goods, our new Platinum Level Business Alliance Member.
The Friends of Malheur NWR Business Alliance Program is an opportunity for businesses to be recognized as leaders and valued partners in supporting our mission. With the sustained support of these Members we work towards our mission of promoting and conserving the Refuge’s cultural and natural resources. Our Members are businesses with an environmental and community minded conscious and we deeply value their commitment.
Business can join the Alliance at one of four levels which works best for their philanthropic capacity. Membership levels start at the $50/yr Bronze Level and scale up to Silver ($100/yr), Gold ($250/yr), and ultimately Platinum which give $500/yr. We are thrilled to welcome our first Platinum Level Member, Howl Intentional Goods.
Howl is small woman-owned business based in Bend, OR. Owner/Creator, Alicia Renner, shared the following story about her inspiration for supporting Friends of Malheur NWR. Below is her story.
‘I just did a fund raiser through my business (Howl Goods) and raised $500 for the Malheur Wildlife Refuge! I have a small business in Bend designing and making apparel and leather goods. For Malheur, I made a special vest with a cutout from a children’s book called “Between Cattails” by Byrd Baylor and Terry Tempest Williams. It only seemed appropriate that supporting a wetland would be the best use of the raffle money.
I wanted to bring awareness to wetlands because of their natural abilities to be carbon sinks. With all the fires going on this year, I feel like it’s important knowledge for people to understand that forests aren’t the only place for carbon storage. Plus, as the forests continue to burn we need to support nature’s other carbon storage sites, such as bogs, wetlands, and marshes.’
