Malheur Refuge owes its existence to events that occurred far back in geologic time, from the formation of Steens Mountain and its watersheds to the Blitzen river basin and freshwater marshes that exist today.
Friends of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge was formed in 1999 and is an independent non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation.
