Come and join with other volunteers for this Malheur Refuge Stewardship Weekend. This weekend’s projects include assemby of a Pinic Pavillion at the new Volunteer Campground, transplanting native grasses into the privacy screens, and work on a footopath to the common room. We will weed any areas needing it and possibly move picnic tables to site. After these projects, the new campground will be ready for use!
To fill out the weekend, we will work on cleaning and improving the polinator plant beds bordering the Crane’s Nest Nature Center & Store. This will include preparing the beds for planting and adding to the polinator plant communities there. In preparation of a future new Nature Center sign, we will clear a space for xeriscaping and sign installation. This will require placing landscape cloth and lanscape gravel on cleared areas.
Lastly we will continue the habitat improvement around the Nature Center by sprucing up the pollinator plant demonstration garden, installing several bird bath dishes, and adding landscape rocks where needed to protect a great basin wild rye plant area.
Week-end schedule:
We need a minimum of 10 volunteers to sign up and we hope that YOU will be one of them!
Housing at the Malheur Field Station in Dorm A will be provided by the Friends.
Donations to support housing costs are welcome.
