Water Update: Late February 2025

In a word, conditions are wet.

Malheur Refuge Maintenance Supervisor Ed Moulton reads off a list of areas affected by rising waters: “The Narrows fish barrier is under water. Sodhouse fields are under water, and the fields north of Sodhouse Lane are filling fast. There were only a couple blowouts on the East Canal, and everything on the south end is full. Krumbo Reservoir is flowing through the spillway, which hasn’t happened in some time. As of February 25, 2025, the Blitzen River is running at 286 cfs and there is 108 inches of snow and 44.9 inches of water content at the Fish Creek site. That is 216% of average. We have not had much runoff from the north yet but much of the area is still wet with normal snow melt. The Snow Mountain site is sitting about 231% of average and Moon Reservoir is 2/3 full, so we are anticipating a large volume from Silver Creek when it starts coming.”

FOMR will continue to provide water updates in the months ahead.
