Another Look at Malheur NWR

As part of our local photo club, the Salem Digital Photography Group, I visited the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge on September 25-29, 2024.  This was my second trip to the refuge.  In 2019, I passed through on a trip elsewhere and had only half a day to spend. I was really looking forward to returning for a less hurried visit.

Our group stayed at the Malheur Field Station which served as a great basecamp for us.  We drove to various locations during the day and shot the stars at night.

I enjoy photographing birds and beasts, and the refuge did not disappoint.  I was also surprised to discover Sod House Ranch.  I suspect that most refuge visitors are so focused on wildlife that they overlook this treasure.  I love finding and photographing the details.  The old buildings and fences with textured wood, the wagons, and the many artifacts from the past (some would say junk) made for many fun shots.

I shoot for fun, and it brings me joy when others enjoy my photos.  I post my photos on Flickr, where they are easy to browse and download, and share them for free for nonprofit, educational, governmental and personal use.  I look forward to my next visit.
